Ole Miss Early Signing Day LIVE UPDATES | 2:00 p.m. (2024)

Early National Signing Day starts on Wednesday and this will be Lane Kiffin’s first full recruiting class at Ole Miss.

The Rebels enter the day with 18 total commitments and have the No. 18 nationally-ranked class. Both numbers are likely fluid, as Ole Miss could potentially see two to three additions to their class today.

The 2021 recruiting class at this point is highlighted by five four-star players, including quarterback Luke Altmyer. The senior signal-caller picked Ole Miss over offers from Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia Tech among others.

Stick with OMSpirit all day for updates, as National Letter of Intents come through.

2:00 p.m.: Markevious Brown joins the fold.

Scouting Report:A slender build. Has the ideal length in the arms. Spent sophom*ore and junior seasons working in the rotation at one of the nation’s most talent-rich programs. Eventually became a starter. Fluid in coverage and able to gain ground with his backpedal. Natural feel for the position allows him to plant his feet and quickly react. Shows good control of his body once airborne. Will fight for a ball. Also understands how to battle with blockers and contribute in run support, which suggests that he might be more than just a field corner if he adds some strength. Additional muscle would help him redirect much bigger wideouts, as well. No verified speed times, but seems to be capable of running with most receivers that come his way. Should be able to eventually play meaningful snaps at the Power 5 level. Could emerge as an all-conference type of player if body matures and he keeps developing coverage techniques.

2:oo p.m.: Bralon Brown is in.

Scouting Report:One of the more physically imposing wide receivers in South Florida. Has the looks almost of a college player given build. Big catch radius. Will make difficult grabs. A threat to score in the red zone given ability to outmuscle defenders. Can block and open lanes on the outside. Flashed potential on tape as a junior, but missed multiple games due to injury and wasn’t super productive. Needs to get much faster and quicker. Also not exactly polished when it comes to route running. Skillset suggests he could become a multi-year starter for a Power 5 school. NFL bloodlines.

1:25 p.m.: The quarterback of the class, four-star Luke Altmyer, is in.

Scouting Report:Relatively slight of frame quarterback though not to a concerning degree. Enough height and frame that has added good weight between junior and senior seasons. Controlled, accurate passer that plays with command in the intermediate game. Good touch with the ability to feather throws over second level defenders or make red zone pylon throws. Light active feet in the pocket. Highlight film shows eyes and feet married up through progressions. Has some outside the pocket ability and makes some slick plays against his body and off script. While he shows pace on throws in the middle of the field and in the short and intermediate areas of the field, he doesn’t show an elite arm on the big throws. Limited yards per attempt relative to the elite national quarterbacks. Despite really good combine athleticism, does not engage as dual-threat runner. We like as an ascending prospect that will be a Power Five starter who possesses some NFL upside. Further validation of physical tools could point to an even higher ceiling.

You know we love those Starkville boys! Welcome to the family, Luke Altmyer!

10:40 a.m.: In the biggest flip of the day, Ole Miss signs MJ Daniels over Mississippi State...and Texas A&M.

Scouting Report:Has a long, lean frame with good stature. Is a versatile athlete who has played quarterback and receiver in addition to multiple spots within the secondary. Likely projects as a defensive back at the next level. Has high-level ball skills at defensive back with the ability to come down with the football in 50-50 situations. Moves fluidly and looks to be most comfortable in off-man and zone coverage at this time. Plays corner primarily but also slides over to safety some. Shows good instincts and breaks on the ball, resulting in a high interception total as a junior. Is a talented, coordinated athlete regardless of where he plays. Will need to continue honing his cover skills as he starts to focus exclusively on defense as he can get caught out of phase at times. Projects as a starter at the Power Five level with the ceiling to develop into a NFL Draft pick.

8:25 a.m.: OL Jayden Williams is in.

Scouting Report:Big-framed athlete with good height and apparent length, though no verified wing measurement. Wears his existing mass well but possesses ample bulking space. Multi-positional playmaker in high school as a tight end, H, offensive tackle, and defensive lineman. Effective in all roles. Impressive functional athlete relative to size. Moves well in space in general. Will need to add mass and strength to play every down at the line of scrimmage at P5 level. Tons of upside in pass-pro but needs to improve pad level and technical nuances of OT position. Added mass and strength will aid in more punch power. Could face a learning curve going to full-time OT, but possesses a high ceiling in the long term. Projects to the P5 level and could become multi-year starter with potential beyond college.

7:50 a.m.:Four-star DB Tysheem Johnson's NLI is in the building.

Scouting Report:Not ideal safety size but plays big. Can easily add 15 pounds to already sturdy frame. Plays faster than 6.99 55-meter time. Quick feet and very good stop-start ability. Possesses hip looseness. Excellent ball skills. Physical and strong down the field. Has nickel ability. Fills run gaps and eager to take on and shed block in box. Can get to edge in running game. Has to increase body mass. Needs work on backpedal and footwork technique to aid change of direction. Sometimes goes for big hit rather than wrapping. Top end speed and size concerns. Multi-year starter at Top 20 program. Day 3 NFL draft pick.

7:25 a.m.: Four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe's NLI has been received.

Scouting Report:Tall, long tight end body with a big catch radius and a body type that is still maturing. Has the frame to be a future offensive tackle but isn’t too bulky to stay at tight end. Has plus feet and fluidity for a long body. Flashes some catch-and-run athleticism. Consistent pass catcher. Sinks hips as a blocker and can lock on to smaller defenders. Finishes blocks. Best suited as a traditional in-line tight end but is comfortable with blocking angles and pass concepts as an H-back. Lacks separation quickness. Not a lot of evidence of rare athleticism. Size is biggest asset. Very competent tight end that has the look of a consistent Power Five starter and a body type that presents some positional versatility.
