Summer weather can really take a toll on your beauty routine. Between the hot temperatures and life’s daily stresses, your complexion can redden, and your skin can become irritated and break out.

Perk up your complexion with these at-home recipes (3)

Dull and dry skin is never a good look for us ladies— and with blotchy patches and wrinkles, it can have us feeling twice our age. But there is good news: Facial mists can keep you looking cool and give your skin the pick-me-up it needs while helping to restore moisture and tone and brighten skin. With tons of different types to choose from, the facial mist is very easily the unsung hero of the female beauty routine.

But before you run out to the nearest store to pick up some of this miracle water, why not try whipping up some of your own remedies at home? By using household items and just a few ingredients, you can give your skin an added health boost without spending a fortune. Here are some of our favorite recipes.

1. Orange blossom mist

This aromatic water is both uplifting and rejuvenating. It also makes a perfect mist for oily or blemish-prone skin as it provides hydration while purifying the complexion. Jordan from Product Junkies Rehab makes a mist that’s perfect for day or night by combining orange blossom water, peppermint oil and lemon oil. This water’s astringent properties help to soothe redness and irritation while stimulating circulation.

2. Green tea mist

Good for both inside and out, this cucumber-and-green tea facial mist is loaded with powerful antioxidants that help at the cellular level. Jessica from College Fashion combines green tea, water and vitamin E to make a cool and refreshing mist. The cucumber, known for its cooling and hydrating properties, keeps skin soft. The mixture of cucumber and green tea helps rejuvenate skin cells and assists with the adverse effects of ultraviolet-radiation exposure.

3. Cucumber aloe mist

Aloe vera is one of the most useful natural remedies for dry skin on the face. Incredibly healing and perfect for dry, sensitive and damaged skin, aloe makes the perfect ingredient for a soothing facial-mist recipe. Brigette from Building 25 uses aloe vera, lemon, rosewater and cucumber to make a refreshing mist for both face and body. The cucumber and aloe soothe skin, while the natural exfoliating properties in the lemon leave the skin feeling and looking softer. If you’re running on little sleep, the rosewater helps reduce swelling of the skin, giving you an overall perkier complexion.

4.Rosewater mist

Whether you’re setting your makeup or hydrating your skin, this recipe by Stephanie at Eco-Chick delivers some powerful health benefits for your skin. She combines rosewater, lemon, witch hazel and water to make a mist that doesn’t just smell good but makes you feel good, too. Rosewater’s anti-inflammatory properties make it perfect for acne and redness. But that’s not all — when combined with the witch hazel, rosewater acts as a great cleanser, removing oil and dirt accumulated in clogged pores and thus creating clear skin.

5. Black tea and essential oil mist

You got too much sun over the weekend, and now your skin is suffering the consequences. Cook up a black-tea-and-lavender essential oil mist to help restore your skin’s moisture and soothe that sunburned skin. Sarah from Beautylish uses black tea, lavender oil, aloe vera and peppermint oil to refresh her skin. The black tea has strong antioxidants that help fight the free radicals that cause aging, while the lavender essential oil helps promote circulation.
